As a therapist, I have years of experience in assisting adolescents and their families navigate the challenges of crisis, transition and daily living. Your teen may be angry or isolating. Perhaps there is a history of depression or self-destructive and high risk behaviors? Maybe you have mentioned therapy to your ‘angsty’ teen-ager and they quickly refused? Your child is my ideal client – let me help! I am able to meet your child where they stand – whether they are angry or not. Through my compassionate, yet realistic approach – I create a space that encourages the client to express their thoughts in an authentic manner. (Really, what this means is that I have a strong manipulation or B.S. radar. I inform clients of this from the beginning and share that if they want to spend their session trying to manipulate me - it is a waste of their time, not mine!) I can help them to find balance and an effective way to communicate their needs or concerns in a productive way.
I have 25 years of experience in working with this type of teen-ager – and have seen many successes. Teen-agers often don’t understand what is troubling them – either by choice or simple lack of life experience. They simply need guidance to safely put down the walls that block them from themselves. As a clinician and LMFT – I am grounded in family systems theory. We all contribute to the functioning of the many systems we belong to. Sometimes the system is out of balance and simply needs some restructuring. I am skilled at working with depression, self-harm, anxiety, social skills development, oppositional defiance and other behavioral/manipulation problems, as well as, ADHD.
